Little Tapestries: Soft Curtain-Verde
Pendant Choker Necklace

This LITTLE TAPESTRIES: Soft Curtain-Verde pendant choker necklace. I came across an antique brooch which used Biwa sticks arranged like a flower. I wanted to duplicate that, and then make it the focal point of my composition.
The backdrop is created using the peyote stitch in freeform fashion. I wanted to create something the suggested the softness of the drape of a heavy curtain.
The biwa stick pearls are top-drilled. Three circles of pearls were pearl-knotted together, with the shortest pearls on top, medium size in the middle, and longest pearls on the bottom
The “flower stem” was created using wire weaving and a wire woven channel setting for a series of cubic zirconia faceted stones. The wire is sterling silver. The piece has been oxidized and brush to bring out some highlights.
The lampwork bead is capped with a patina’d brass leaf cap.
All components were bead embroidered onto the backdrop.
Originally, my plan included many more pieces and details. But reflecting on the work as it was coming together, I felt this minimalist use of components made a stronger statement and impression.
I intentionally created a much less tailored silhouette for the piece as a whole, as it was always meant to be about the “cloth” and less about the components the cloth interacts with.
The necklace chain allows this piece to be adjustable, between 16 and 19". The clasp is a simple figure 8 lobster claw clasp.
The piece is meant to be worn close to the neck. However, it can easily function as a longer piece, as well.
